the bunk room

Bunk Rooms are a top feature in design magazine pages, Instagram feeds and Pinterest boards. And while they are absolutely stunning, are they right for your child? Mostly we see these used in vacation homes where you need to sleep many people frequently. Bunkbeds can seem childish or harken you back to your dorm days, not that that is a bad thing. But there is a permanence in creating a bespoke bunk room. For children who grow and change quickly this may not be a wise investment for your everyday home.

There is no doubt bunkbeds are a hit with children and there are some marvelous ones that you can beautifully incorporate into your child's room. I recently completed two children's bedrooms for a fantastically fun family. Both children wanted bunkbeds, but come teen years those will probably disappear. I utilized a twin over queen for one that can easily be transformed into a solo queen bed down the road and for the other I did a twin over twin that can be separated into two standalone twins.

Here's a sneak peek at one of the designs.

While there are plenty of Bunkbeds out there to choose from, here are a few of my favorites.
